planning for the future....

sticks and leaves woven above an abyss,
and once inside the black hole
we stop living the day in front of us
we sink to the bottom of a rote tar pit

we hedge all our bets
that we will live to some imagined number,
we speak often of nest eggs
as if they were infallible golden oracles

to be cracked open one day
dripped over our heads , bathing us
in a chance for a few more days or weeks
we go without... to feed the mama bird

we miss opportunities to live one exhilarating day,
we scrimp and sacrifice, the good surrogate parents
we pat ourselves on the back cause we believe
that mama bird will regurgitate long hours of work

into babies mouths, and those coddled little birds
will one day lay those panacea eggs, but I think
pickin' numbers is a loser's game
we gamble the lottery of life everlasting

so i say, live for today my friends,
love your family and friends, find the time....
for other human beings as well, cause if you
keep rollin' dem dice, one day you're gonna crap out

The choice
To live for this day
Not some future maybe
That is a wise decision
Basking in the health and
happiness of this now
