Beautiful Dreamers

Beautiful Dreamers

Ensconced in sea shell world
of village for the divinely touched
She sat next to me on couch
“What should I get my husband for Christmas?” she pondered
“Oh he’d love a subscription to Playboy.
I’ll get him that.”
Chagrined I replied, “You wouldn’t mind that?”
She smiled big as Texas.
“Oh not at all. He’ll love it.”

Our conversation meandered
into a scintillating curve
Her disclosure a startling revelation
“They took me to the quiet room last night”
she whispered
“The men pinned me against the wall.
Then they took down my pants.
and gave me a shot in my bottom.”
I imagined her humiliation
And wondered what necessitated such measures

Later that day she said,
“I’m going to wash your coat for you John.”
I replied, “You don’t have too.”
She beamed and said, “It will be my pleasure.”
I wore that coat all day every day
regardless of temperature.
And she washed it for me.

Such a kind and compassionate soul she was
Her orchid flower grin
shined in the hollow of my heart
with rays of golden eternity

I like that phrase "her orchid flower grin". It sums up the poem and the feelings. Such a contrast in stanzas 2 and 4. The same world but vastly different.

Cogent observations my friend. Indeed the contrast between those stanzas is vast. Glad you enjoyed that "orchid flower grin" phrase. Thanks for the thoughtful read. Your take on this poem is greatly appreciated. :)
