Bukowski hated Mickey Mouse

I remember oranges as big as the moon
the entire landscape of an orange
resting in the arms of the moon
In the summer of my childhood
the smell of orange blossoms
fireworks every summer night
from Disneyland, five miles away
the stars had to compete with the exploding
blossoms of wild colors, people along the street
watching every night the spectacle
it was as if we were being told that, this, this
would always be like fire flowers in the sky
that the future would always be bright
and we would always be part of it
I stood there in front of my tracked home
just like all the other tracked homes of tomorrow land
seeing the bright future repeat itself ever summer night
but the firework show was not for the locals
it was for the people that paid to get into the park
even though you could see it miles away for free
I only ever went to the Disneyland amusement park
a hand full of times, my mother had to take me
because my dad was not really into it, for some reason
that magic castle place was just down the road
a few miles, I could walk there by the time I was ten
the first time I went there I was five, I recall the motor
boat entering the mouth of the whale, my life
would never be the same, and Bukowski hated Mickey Mouse
the last time I went there I was seventeen, I was on LSD,
kinda of a bummer, but it was not in the summer, this time
it was new year's eve, and I saw myself as a little kid
running around to all the rides, the tea cup one was cool
but I liked the wild toad ride the best, because it was kinda scary
