I always fall for fall

the sun is good and hot
for september, a few leaves already,
candy apple red and finch yellow
remind me of the sequence about to unfold
so I treasure the warm day
like the last sip of colombian coffee
like the last bite in a bowl of Cherry Garcia ice cream
like the last hit from a twist of sensamilla
I drink up the splendor of this shirtless day
with a little private tribute
to madam naturale, the mistress of moods
I thank her with my poetry
I brand her beautiful face on my chest
a cosmic tattoo than penetrates my skin
tinting my heart with those reds and yellows
and those golds, and rusts, and burnt oranges
my eyes become prismatic, they broadcast
a rainbow symphony for just the two of us to hear
we acknowledge the ceremony,
the changing of the guard
for september, a few leaves already,
candy apple red and finch yellow
remind me of the sequence about to unfold
so I treasure the warm day
like the last sip of colombian coffee
like the last bite in a bowl of Cherry Garcia ice cream
like the last hit from a twist of sensamilla
I drink up the splendor of this shirtless day
with a little private tribute
to madam naturale, the mistress of moods
I thank her with my poetry
I brand her beautiful face on my chest
a cosmic tattoo than penetrates my skin
tinting my heart with those reds and yellows
and those golds, and rusts, and burnt oranges
my eyes become prismatic, they broadcast
a rainbow symphony for just the two of us to hear
we acknowledge the ceremony,
the changing of the guard
