without dreams
it's pretty easy to fade away
to slip into the crevice of time
get wedged 'tween the rocks of lethargy

no need to shoot for Jupiter or Mars
but you can if you want to
it's all up to you, but modesty
is a perfectly acceptable defense

walk in the woods
a slight inclined plane will do the trick
it's the ritual march of breath, the resistance
to the C.P.A. ( Couch Potato Army ) that matters

I see those barbarians at the garden gate
I see them try to ramrod down the front door
hide your mind, lest you be taken
to the dungeon of complacency, chained to the wall

they are real, the gladiators of apathy,
they are muscular and determined
but in no way scary, these unmotivated foot soldiers
are only looking for easy marks

one foot
in front of the other one
watch the perpetual invaders run away
like disappointed demons on a scavenger hunt

you have been very generous passing out such finely tuned lines.

admirable piece, Steve, and one I'd easily declare "a Keeper! by Jove... a Keeper!"
