history and philosophy

loosening the cuffs
help the wrists, but the shackles
of the mind are near impossible
to get relief from some days

the machinery of parents and schooling
often grind originality into inert powder
I am on this endless journey, in search
of my authentic self

I have seen monks sitting
in the sunshine on the sides of mountains
staring into the vastness of colored time
scanning the universe for the arms of peace

some I'm told find comfort in the church
others in manic exercise, but most everyone
knows there is something more
than television, work and television

I want to sprout wings of determined hope
'cause history is always tainted, written
by the conquering lords on horseback,
passed on in the redacted scripture of clever men

'cause as Jack Nicholson emphasized
'You can't handle the truth !!"
those abrasive wash clothes have scarred my face....
people deciding for me what I cannot handle

Ahhhh, but there is a catch when Mr. Death comes a-calling...some folks run out of time. Search over.

of course, none of us can predict our last day on earth, even better reason to keep searching for new insight as long as we are here...may as well keep digging, eh ?

history is death, philosophy is life.

history interests me less than the future.... though I do not ignore it totally...i have learned much from my past behavior...tweaked a few things that didn't ring true....dusted myself off and got out of the dirt....I am now focused on all that I don't yet know about....

When I say history, I mean the one of the victors.
