winter poem

winter poem
the rain has filled
my eyes
with camouflage--
a wetness
undisturbed
by the droughts
of hiding
sorrow
or covering
sadness
with makeshift
smiles.
the winter, what of it
has not taken
you hostage?
thin skin, chattering
bones shivering
like caskets
when
relent?
who
joy?
for every puddle
beneath my eyes,
the horizon
opens its
arms
the rain has filled
my eyes
with camouflage--
a wetness
undisturbed
by the droughts
of hiding
sorrow
or covering
sadness
with makeshift
smiles.
the winter, what of it
has not taken
you hostage?
thin skin, chattering
bones shivering
like caskets
when
relent?
who
joy?
for every puddle
beneath my eyes,
the horizon
opens its
arms
