Film Noir

Post by theirishsea » January 23rd, 2015, 3:40 pm

Dichotomies always
polarities
good and evil: young and old; hot and cold
et cetera
and then there is Marla
you
with your wallet full of twenties
know
as you buy her red wine
she is so wrong-wrong-wrong
but she looks so right
her beauty
with a little eye shadow
a little smile
looks so right
the shadows of your heart are lit
the Hollywood Bowl
a Sam Spade mystery
she looks so elegant
you hold the small of her back
you hold her like dancing
so right but so wrong
she is so interested in herself
hardly inquires about your life
it is about her life
and you
like a novelist make notes
but you are an audience
too rapt in spectacular beauty
as you watch her work the room
away from you
you want to say to her
"I'm not chump change"
but you are
a private eye
a bit player
in her film noir
The Irish Sea Is Always In Turmoil, Even When Calm.

she doesn't believe you
when you tell her
she's beautiful.
she doesn't want your stillness,
the silent things
that wake you
every morning

Loved this, Dan! ... I could picture it. You pulled me in. That darn Marla. She's sumthin else, huh? Geez....

Also reminded me of Dino's work somehow. I guess I must be missing him. He wrote a lot of old movie pieces.

Dino wrote a poem titled "Film Noir". It definitely influenced me some.
