time spent like loose change

all this time spent like loose change
in the bottom corner of a pocket
about as useful as the lint next to it

what has become of this momentary blink
this brief period of growth and near death

can't escape its mighty truth
swallowing individuality
once that body no longer serves
its purpose over for ever
leaving particle remains
for the great earthly food chain
to continue the grand carnival
isolated billions of miles from nowhere
amusing only our selves

but we made love
shot our wads high and deep
screamed our orgasms to a god
created booze to dull our sharpness
partook of plants that escorted us
thru multiple plains of thought
broken codes of our past
dreamed of our future
only to pass beyond
with all the luggage strapped
upon our backs, hunched over
we carry the weight of our being
like all of life that came before
