Fat Cats - Part 2

I saw a lady in the grocery store.
She couldn't have been more than 34,
had 2 kids in tow and one on the way
and let me say this, she looked frazzled,
frayed, so tired she clearly needed a rest,
blessed soul was in the cat food aisle, we had
a little chat, I asked her what kinda cat she
was shopping for and she said, "I can't afford a cat!
I have these 2 mouths to feed" and it became obvious
to me she was buying those tiny canned goods meant
for felines for herself since they couldn't afford anything
else, and oh yeah, damn, the man at the checkout
counter scoffed when she pulled out her food stamps
card and a pile of coupons so high, they must've taken her
days of work to compile, and all the while she tried to smile,
but after she checked out, he looked at me 'cause I was next
in line and said, "You and I are paying for her food!" and it was
just plain fricking rude, that's all I have to say, who was he to judge,
living on the low pay he earns scanning in items as a grocery clerk.
"Hey look, I'd like to have work, too, yanno?," I said and he just
grinned like he didn't believe me and right there on the rack
stacked at the end of the check-out lane were tabloids and papers
plain as day with it all spelled out, the propaganda machine,
headlines in bold type screaming, "You're in danger! You're in danger!"
articles making excuses for the bombings to the tune of billions upon
billions per week, when people are starving, can't even eat! It's a
pitiful shame, this fucking game, capitalism run rampant where
corporations are people, TV echoes the Big Brother rant like a chant
we must memorize, "You're in danger! You're in danger!" and not only
that they want you to report your neighbors for any activity you think
might be odd, like the news reporters have become gods, bought by
the media machine, and by that I mean the military industrial state
which is owned by the 1% whose names we can't even name. What a
stupid fucking game. Middle class is gone while the fat cats don
their damn 10 thousand dollar suits and people wonder why moms
might resort to a so-called house of ill repute to make ends meet.
Yeah, that was a pun. Rant over. I'm done.
