bongo head

Post by revolutionR » February 11th, 2015, 4:27 pm

bongos are beating in my head
I'm somewhere back in the fifties
cool cats are listening to jazz
there's poetry in the air
sometimes makes your skin
want to crawl

make want to crawl out of your skin
and dance around like a ghost
in some kind of neon beating night
the fifties when everything was straight
and nobody questioned anything
cept maybe some bums, and poets

bongos playin my head
got that African jazz in my feet
got crazy cat blues givin me my news
got some street sounds banging my balls
some bearded cat reading his poem
and that other cat passin around the hat
for coin to keep the wine flowin

who knows if jazz made the poetry better
or the other way around
howl in 55 and jazz changed everything 59
and the wine of the gods kept poets singin

we got to say some big, so what
so what is happening, what's the haps dad
what keeps you blowin that horny horn
keeps you drinkin coffee in the cafe
keeps you haunting them weird words
and them girls in shades groovin on
the sound of your way out words

it was time for a change in America....time to jettison the status quo....a great time in our history for expression on so many levels that didn't follow the rules...there was irreverence and creativity....I was just listening to a tape of Burroughs yesterday....he had this cadence and delivery....kind of monotone, but packed with humor and indignant off the wall messages to the world....it's cool that you actually got to experience it all....makes me want to put on my shades and grab my bongo
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

I was a kid in the 50's but when I was 12 I decided I wanted
to be a beatnik, or that is what I began relating to.When I
was 16 I was making a recording on my dads tape recorder
My friends and I were goofing around, and I did a kind of
beatnik poet impersonation. I think that really was the
beginning for me. Then at 17 it became hippies, Dylan
psychedelic music. I got a John Coltrane album called Om
and I was off like a fart in a whirlwind.
