when I was young many sunsets ago
I thought a lot about making money,
now that I am relatively old
I think more about making time

time to explore a creek bed
overturning stones on the muddy banks
searching for salamanders, signs of life
reassurances for when I am gone

time for the ancient practice of quiet, time
for falling backwards in super-slo motion
cushioned by a raked pile of reddish-brown leaves
time, for being a child again

time to stretch my limbs
time to stretch my mind
time to suspend reality at the drop of my baseball cap
drift into the waiting clouds of swirling fantasy

available for universal seduction,
ready for the fastball
but sitting on the curve...
mellow about my future and the people I love

open
to any and all invitations
open to the vastness of possibility
open to imagination..... the avant-garde
