How We Fit In

getting dark
no
snow keeps it light
a heavy weeping cold-hearted kind of day
saying a lot of silence
that you sink into too
not meaning filling up the fields
not emotion sticking to the bare wood of trees
not security resting on roofs
some inexplicable comment from nature
or super-nature
letting us have guilt for
screwing with the universe
oh such theories of human exceptionalism
but we are just spokes or spooks on the wheel
haunting
the great design with imperfection
but nature and/or super-nature
shrugs us off
like snow from a wind-tossed limb
tomorrow our memories will evaporate
the whole human race
cloud
ash
an odor in the wind
