Not Forgetting

like a shadow
the early humiliations
as a kid
remain

you sit watching dead leaves
fly, dance, swoon
across brown grass
but inside no autumnal acrobatics
you bring up
like a bad meal
the grade school humiliations--
finishing last
in a sprint on field day

and worse

a shadow
that you notice at odd times

your back to the sun
you are in a time that doesn't exist
the space you occupy
is flat, featureless
doesn't fit in the golden evening
the laughter
clink of beer glasses
the toasts
pure and vulgar
that are all about you
music, songs

more similar than different we all are - sometimes right down to the details - here the big transmission lines skirt the edge of the plateau carrying invisible power across the landscape and towards the east -

I carry a great deal of those torturous situations from youth, how clueless I was at times...and despite the birthdays that pass with cake and ice cream, I drift from time to time back to some event from the playground ....and it has some impact

nice poem danno

Was into a conversation about introversion vs extroversion today. I may copy your poem and leave it for the gal I was talking to about this. Well done and wise.
