that magic's this magic

that magic's this magic, magically this
or that, the fat magic, the tragic occurrence,
the scare tactic, the disappearing act, the
recurring of fact based on fiction, the diction
of the magician at the mic, psyching out the
audience, sleight of hand, demand for attention,
the cutting in half and reassembly of an attractive
assistant, high on her heels, spiked, the likes
represented by the applause, the pause for the delay
in a reveal, the deal shuffled then reshuffled then
queens and kings and jacks pulled from the back
of an ear when it never would appear it could happen
as such, and thus goes the trick, the stick of one thought
inside one side of the brain, the insane way the viewer
trades his logic for instinct, the distinct resemblance
between real and unreal by sleight of hand,
each planned trick slick like a mage, the sage
observer remaining unaware as the dare to follow
perfectly timed crazes continue and then ...
Oh. My. GOD.
the audience turns their heads
their absolute dread of being TAKEN
once again by the skin
unbelievable nature recurring
once more to shore
the magician's trance,
each party
in the viewer dance
doing a two-step hug
and a jump-up on the rail
that magic, this!
a trail of circular fire
from an entire
hoop! loop-to-loop
leaped, all eyes piqued
into the other side of a
void!
