Becoming Un-stupid

Post by 68degrees » May 6th, 2015, 11:39 am

I remember her, the older girl
with plated, bronze skin
After we made love one lonely afternoon,
she started up talking about my soul,
how it was like a box of niceness, tied
with frightened pieces of cotton string
Later, she asked me for a cigarette,
I rolled my eyes, Only for stupid folks
She replied, Maybe it was time I started

Smoked a pack a day
with thin lips for thirty-five years
before becoming un-stupid again

Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

Wish I was unstupid. I just joined a community called QuitNet. Hopefully I'll quit smoking before it kills me. Otherwise, I may have to quit QuitNet.

What an idiot addiction.... costly.... smelly.... I HATE IT!
I liked your poem, btw. Very inspiring!

You'd think after I lost a former partner to larynx cancer and knowing the irony of a spoken word poet and flute player losing his larynx ..... I woulda quit when I saw him last, only months before he died.

PS... someone told me on QuitNet that there's a great app for quitting smoking for a smart phone. I only have a stupid phone. I can text and make a phone call. That's it. I replied that I couldn't afford a smart phone but I bet I COULD afford one if I quit buying cigarettes.

"And curse Sir Walter Raleigh, he was such a stupid git!" — The prophets, John and Paul, from the Beatles' song "I'm So Tired."

I'm tired of coughin'.
Soon the coffin?

Jeeeeezzzzzz

I had my fifth annual "Becoming Un-Stupid" party this past March. When I quit, pretty much cold turkey, I had the added help of a doctor telling me more than likely I would soon lose my toes to circulation problems within five years if I didn't quit. So I did.

Conservatively, I figured I smoked 225,000 butts in my lifetime. Pack a day, like clockwork.

FYI: Happy Mother's Day, Doreen.
