lo-tech

I'm lo-tech....
almost invisible
to the wireless world of android personalities

oh, they see me I guess. those hacker fiends
but they have no patience
for my reluctance to plug it all up like a tacky Christmas tree

I'm not a total Luddite mind you, tho I am
a minimalist shrimp in a sea of pissed off orcas
I feel like a man with a deep-dark secret

as the culture tries to suck me
down the YouTube like a bad blowjob , I wonder
will there will be penalties

for nonconformity, for non-performance
I wonder how soon the cyber cops will hunt
me down like a hippie dog, then I wonder if Maybe

we can co-exist somehow....you know, like it says
on that bumper sticker on a lot of dark green Subarus
I wonder, can you accept me as I am

I wrote this applying my personal experiences to some of the ideas expressed in Chris Hedges book, Empire of Illusion...The End of Literacy and the Triumph of Spectacle....very good read

I love Chris Hedges. Sounds like a book I might order.

Enjoyed your poem. I'm a web designer, graphic designer, computer geek but I hate it. I held off getting a cell phone for many years. Finally got one a couple of years ago and I hate that, too. It's a stupid phone. I can make calls and text with it, but that's it and it still costs me a small fortune. I'm considering totally disconnecting, becoming a luddite, moving to the mountains and living off the land. We're looking at cabins in the Smoky Mountains.

Ha ming, I knew someone would comment on that...as in....is there such a thing ?

and Doreen, yeah I get more irritated by it all every day...and part of it has always been the awareness of what I could have been doing while I was sitting in a chair looking at a screen

nothing prettier than the Great Smoky Mountains in the fall....looks like you could jump from the top of a ridge and would land in a multi-colored beanbag chair.....tho all the seasons have something to offer...sure would hate to see S8 go under, but understand the allure of pulling the plug for sure.....and none of us would die one way or the other....of course you may be speaking of a getaway cabin and not a permanent living situation....

had the opportunity to visit friends in Norway where half the population also has a cabin somewhere...and they really limit how many can be built, so there is ample space in between....my friends had a sauna attached to one of the out buildings.....so you could plunge yourself into the cold stream then walk into the sauna....pretty good stuff

all solar... energy-wise.....water from the creek, clear and clean....matter a fact all the energy in Norway is hydroelectric....water rushing everywhere....they sell their off shore oil and the country cuts the citizens a check from the profits in the national fund....free university, free health care....super low crime....if I could only master Norwegian...it's a bear....back to the books
