poet

the more poetry you write the better
because there is not enough
poetry in the world

poetry keeps the moon
and the stars up there
and Blake's tiger bright

I can still see Jack Micheline
on a Frisco street reciting a poem
his spare change sign for river red
I still see City Lights Books, with
poetry in the window

I don't know why I became a poet
but I think the poet became me

I love this! And I completely agree!
And above me the stars align
But not yet with my own
And the night birds sing
Whilst the demon haunts this restless soul.

its never good to bottle things up.....stuff under pressure explodes....the poet can get things off his chest , and be creative in the process...another way to relieve the stresses of living a long life...it's win-win....art and diary collide
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

So true saw.
And above me the stars align
But not yet with my own
And the night birds sing
Whilst the demon haunts this restless soul.

after so many years writing poetry, i have arrived where i began, i don't know anything more then when i began, i still can see why i was drawn to certain poets, something about how words in a poem can convey some deep inner feelings, i don't know what happened to the great poetic rise that came out of the 50's and 60's , where all that feeling went, i have some idea that the internet took something away that was vital. In the beginning of the www, it seemed like it was a great opening for something new to come through, there was still that "on the road ' vibe, but now it all seems distant and so-so, I don't know. I have been putting poems of a site called Poetfreak, but a lot of the young poets on there seem like they are writing facebook poetry. But there is still some poetic fire out there. It is one thing to be a young poet these days, it was something other before the internet.

What exactly is "facebook poetry"?

I like your poem.

Loved the ending especially...

i mean, that it's like they have a sort of facebook mentality, they don't read other known poets, so much as they read their age group, love lost, a lot of really sad stuff, that sort of thing, but they do seem to think that poetry is a way for them to say how they feel, it's just that a lot of them seem not to really read famous poets. It's just the impression i get, but on the other hand, people do seem respectful of each other. There are some older poets and some pretty fine poets too, even if they don't know who Rimbaud was, or the Beats so much. I'm just generalizing.

there is no poetry to be had unless it fucking resonates with me... takes me places that I've never been or thought of... places that are memorable, poems that amuse and amaze. If I don't get that i haven't read poetry... there is no poetry without that.
