Crayons Were Meant to be Free

I colored within the lines
my picture seemed so dull
my work held no adventure

My spirit is held in Limbo

My freedom of expression
my personal taste
frowned upon

Must I lie to myself

The rulemakers say
if I am to have their approval
I must continue to follow their rules

Do I not have a right to approve of myself

If I am to live within a prison
it will not be of their making
it will be the one I choose for myself

It's time to set my crayons free

I remember the judgements that came from staying between the lines....your choice of colors.....no teacher I had wanted to see a green sky and blue grass.....compliments came from following the rules only...not from personal expression

And really most great art has and will always be inspirational
If you are one
You will not be willing to stop
Perhaps even offended when people use your paintings to brag about being the model on Facebook
Perhaps I am becoming stodgy
I could not teach children because my punctuation sucks
Once I had a college professor ignore my mistakes
He said" you have to be really good to break the rules"
He never said" if I was good" maybe he didn't want it to go to my head
I still wonder
About his book
His words seemed like dead leaves at the end of fall
Beginning of winter
Hanging on...
Wind coming up
So the painting school in Santiago is looking good
It's fucking cold here
Warm compliments on your write-
You touched something
That's good

i have always believed that art, good or bad is for the heart and not the head. will touch people in the way that they need if it is left on the open side rather than being closed and confined within a set of rules. if it touches even one, the art in my mind is good art while for those that it does not touch, it was not meant for them. i am glad that you enjoyed it and that it was for you.
