after the flood

floods make for a thorough cleansing
of sorts
despite the wet carpets
stinking
despite the ruined LP's
wrinkled
despite the stacked cartons
wicking
the waters up into the contents

the flood brought a rush
to clean up the place
that time never made space for
as if all the stuff was somehow
going to move on its own

but nature works in ways
that we can never understand
other than the aftermath
of what she leaves us -
sorrows drowning out the reality
that things are impermanent
and life must eat its own
in order to survive this life
that goes and goes and goes

cycles - bicycles - tricycles
muticycles upon megacycles
treading waters of life
staying above the tides
so that we may learn of our
own lives before we too
are trapped in the flood
and struggle to survive
knowing damn well that
we will go under

only to return to its shores
and gasp for our first breath

It's not the end....

more like a reinvention....

(quite the year for desert flooding, isn't it?)
