I'm less clever these days
the chakras are tuned to humility
the machines are all humming
like bumble bees in rhythm with the bands
of gold and black, the blues are in the sky
the spelunkers have entered the black caves
I can see their carbide lamps
coming down the pathway, and
bullshit will blow this fucking mind
to smithereens with a wink and a spark
methane and dishonesty never mix well
the wellspring is nervous and volatile
so tread carefully my friend, don't
embellish the lie, tell us the truth man
'cause that coy shit don't play well here
in the city, save the fish tales for
the fellas up at the lake that reminisce
about jimmy hoffa...just give me
the straight dope, such a weird
expression, isn't it ?... I guess
the crooked dope means, you must have
missed the vein

dope and it's many conotations....it's kinda confusing....oh by the way liked this piece steve

The poem asks the imposable .Politicians have become side shows to entertain us while lawyers and bankers and military men do as they wish, the dope in politics is us. The poem made me think, just exactly where did these fools come from? Ah, television commercials every one , wipe your ass with my paper its better! yup smart work friend

It's been more like "straight-up dope" than the straight dope for quite some time now...

Even what goes on in my statehouse is increasingly surreal. And I can barely bring myself to participate in federal elections. I used to sneer at people who had this attitude.
