The Good Old Men

I knew when I was coming up
Mister frank
he could carry a fifty gallon drum of diesel
up the gang plank of the Mary Joe
he was eighty six
old man Jack was a jack of all trades
master of them all
did it right
Believed
went to mass every day
said "a man who did not have children
needs his balls cut off"
Mister Jeffcot was a true sailor man
deeply quiet ,wind whisper, boat builder
broken hearted. always missed the girl long gone
dread naught Droughty was a pal
crop dusting walrus
the finest wrench turning engineer I ever met
William Blake could build any thing out of wood
Mister David Rockwell opened his home to me
when I was hungry
built a forge and sawmill
mostly just helped people out all the time
never had a dime left over
I was a lucky lad
