spills

Post by saw » March 11th, 2016, 11:44 am

spill my chamomile tea
across the top of the desk
I can see part of my dumbfounded face
in a tawny pool of ginger and honey

staring into the brand new puddle
I feel little urge to do anything about it
I'm numb and unmotivated to spring
into action, content to admire the shape of the pond

mesmerized by this fraction of my cheek
this one eyeball amber instead of blue, these
prismatic colors in a micro-lake with captivating aroma
and steam rising from a place that has never had that dimension

am I just being lazy, am I being mulish
No I think, it's just that I never want to be
predictable ever again, and now I am compelled,
leaning over, lapping it up

this is my chance to swallow my environment
to embrace a facet imagined only now
at this very instant, there was no planning
it just happened, and my tongue was looking

for something new, I imagine the dust dissolved
into the hot liquid and it doesn't frighten me, rather
excites me that this once inconceivable combination
flows through me like the magic of true discovery
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.
