Air

one day all the birds leave
the nest to fly...or fall
that pivotal moment
emerges like the head
of a baby crocus poking
its purple crown from the chilly spring soil
avian respiratory systems are like no other mammals

perfect flyers lungs do not expand or contract

one day all the ships sail
when the summer winds of the cove fill the mainsails

this has been going on since the sixth millennium
when the reed boats pushed upstream
against the currents of the mighty Nile
the momentum mirroring oxygen
to act upon the adventurous nature of man
to always head out toward the horizon

species never resist their evolutionary steps
flesh and blood and bone cannot sit still
stagnation is as rare as albino raccoons
or alabaster humpback whales, snowy gorillas
it's all the same
Air in the Sails......Air in the Lungs

Air in the movement of time

The movement of the air is scared among the indigenous tribes of north america it is the spirit of all life, the poem rings so true to this understanding . I like the feel of the words in my reading mind, they are easy and present in context.
