The Rain

It is a wild thundering electric rain
unearthly brooding dark red clouds
waves of wind sweep across the roof of the sky
the rain is the very air
filled with electric fire intwined so close
snapping hissing cracks of the lashing whip
in the money changers hour
who should turn away in shame
you scorn the beggar
think again mighty nations of commerce
whose war machines are built with the gifts of this world
on the backs of the poor
awash with the blood of constant conflict
you greedy power wielding thieves
snatching clutching money demons
your fancy office windows will look out on this rain
you will feel the reality
so to be scattered before the wind of change
in the rain
an abiding truth in the confusion
lost to the sight of human existence
we will answer you this
with the earth as our mother
we sing to the stars at night
we who hold high mass for the moon and the wind
care for the field mouse , weeds along the fence row
will gather folks who remember clear water teaming with life
our garden home of abundance
blending easily with fern and stone
foot paths to the singing lodge
the rain asks how have you lost your way so badly
so as to never see us standing in the shadows of grief for your dark world'
your children should not hear of war
they should know music and poetry
gardens of love and peace
almost a dream to you now
the forgotten path fades into the valley of shadows
we call to you from far away
the rain is coming
unearthly brooding dark red clouds
waves of wind sweep across the roof of the sky
the rain is the very air
filled with electric fire intwined so close
snapping hissing cracks of the lashing whip
in the money changers hour
who should turn away in shame
