two dogs, a man, and a woman

on this first spring day -
this first real spring day -
a chocolate lab and a pretty girl
met me and Kane on the trail
Kane's a handful
he loves people and dogs
and shows his love
by overwhelming them
in a tsunami of affection
so the pretty girl and I
choked up our leashes
and as we did, we talked
"nice day to be out!"
"sure is - what a beautiful dog!"
"thanks, so is yours!"
her smile was real,
her manner warm,
not wary and guarded
as it might be if I were young and muscled
and reeking with musk
alone with her out here
on this remote byway -
she seemed instead
at ease with this old gent
trusting
that he would do no harm
so our words danced properly
without entendre
and after we parted
I replayed the encounter
in chaste fantasy
so unlike those
of my younger days!

but what fantasies might have played out in her mind?
who knows.
But still, it's so refreshing to interact without double entendre!

well-played, Sasha

Ah but I ,on the other hand, would have dreamed a closer dance ,as I am more the fool I suppose . Enjoyed the poem for its gift of journie.
