'round these parts

'round these parts folks say
the devil is beating his wife
when rain falls through the sunshine
but I doubt any female would be so stupid
to hook up with a jerk like satan,
so my mind turns to science for a second
spins like a roulette wheel in a cerebral casino
clickety clack, clickety clack, all on black
the mathematics of random occurrence
collides with the science of luck, a swirling
maelstrom of humor and humility
tossed in a bowl of theory and quantum leaps
fact is, I don't want to know why it rains
sometimes, when the sun is out, I just
want to smile viscerally from ear to ear...
maybe that's how all these axioms and adages
came to life...some old-timer in a mountain cabin
was sitting on his front porch chewing tobacki
and the scenery, and needed a simple explanation,
so he spat a nasty black wad of chew into the dirt
and proclaimed, the devil is beating his wife
then went back to pickin' his banjo and howlin'
like an old mountain lion all proud of himself...
turnin' some hillbilly logic into some shit kickin' song lyrics
truth is, no one can really prove him wrong.
