Everything sounds like the sea

Everything sounds like the sea —
the breeze between the trees,
the neighbor's AC or heat,
the repeat revs, cars traveling down the street,
the breathe-ins and breathe-outs, the waves
of surety and doubt, the background music
in a movie memory.
Everything sounds like the sea —
the swallowed or inhaled salt air,
the dare percussion from some distant gravity,
pounding like it was meant to be
and then there is the whoosh whoosh whoosh
of the waves finally
hitting your feet
As you walk down a sand-spread lucid street,
your back a windshield to the downbeat
of a storm being born from a gutsy
memory, an artful maneuver of whimsy
echoing off wind-danced branches from
the other side of a scree.
I sit, open ears.
I hear, believe. I see.
Everything sounds
like the sea.
the breeze between the trees,
the neighbor's AC or heat,
the repeat revs, cars traveling down the street,
the breathe-ins and breathe-outs, the waves
of surety and doubt, the background music
in a movie memory.
Everything sounds like the sea —
