spearmint on the lips

the sounds of summer proper
the whoosh....
concrete air pushed
cars flying with mad max
flitting somewhere
dashing nowhere
there,
the middle of normal
the words you seek
the poetic gestures
there in the clouds
that came before google,
timeless secrets
shared experiences
repeated
historical echoes
someone
has done it before you
many.
have done it before you
searched the sky
for showcase words
phrases
for re-consumption
expressions twisted
for freshness
poetry filtered
through cheesecloth
the dregs tossed like
coffee grounds
fertilizer, worms
the circle of circles
oops, there it is

... that's exactly it too - no one can have that original thought - the ground has already been plowed over - so poetry always comes down to style - that's its beating heart these days - but maybe not as bad as that - still enough of us freaksters around to keep it viable - enough so that you can cut it and see real blood flow out
