The Defect Detector

Long has he lived
Finding fault as his aim
You see he was quite lonely
At the start just a game
A new target he'd choose
For every new session
But as his game progressed
It became his obsession
Well now he can't stop
He's grown a negative mind
And everywhere that he looks
The more mistakes does he find
There's become nothing of beauty
In his life there's no joy
Now he wishes he'd never
Begun this game as a boy

Almost an addiction, ain't it....being negative, I mean, or like an abusive relationship with yourself. A pity, really.

Yes , I think perhaps the boy was victim of the same sort of game and knows nothing else. The poem tells of a truly sad situation as the actions of this unfortunate fellow saturate a whole group and spoil the air for all who come in contact . Having gained distance, I can see how the mind becomes poisoned by it .I have shook it off and will not return.Your poem reminded me of the whole sad affair.

narcissism is a plague of the mind,
when one thinks they're perfect
and all else must feel the scathing tongue
of rebuke....so sad to waste a life
only on top in the single mindedness
that never generates a warm glow inside

that negativeness kills the spirit, it is abuse in itself.

passion wasted on the narcissist only feeds him, don't feed the animals.
