Homeless girl sat on the lawns
Of million dollar homes in the west hills
She eats out of food boxes from various non profit
Service centers
However
She was able to understand how to get help
There were others
Not so lucky
And they went somewhere else
Even though they appeared to be here
They had been gone awhile-

Around here you do not see any one with out a home, they get run off as fast as they can put them in jail for something or another then it is a halfway house in the city or something.Every once in a long while you see some one under a bridge.Money in this deep south comunity is law. Over across the bay in the city you will find those who are homeless but they will movre on quick .Those that linger are abused, I believe the poem knows about this .

lots of homeless in baltimore
some set up encampments under the bridges
a rather large one from time to time
under the Jones Falls Expressway as it dumps into the city
there are tents and broken chairs
and every so many months the cops come
and take the little bit they have
and they start over, again and again
they move from having little to having nothing
it's sick man...they aren't dangerous
they're just trying to keep living
as awful as it may be....they keep trying

my friend works at a super market
she says she has to throw away so much food from the deli every day
there is no reason for homelessness or hunger
all the abandoned empty houses
for sale foreclosures etc
i get a phone call from another child
that is on the street
with his girlfriend and his dog-
could not let the dog come where i live
