as were anybody they did not want around
artists, poets, early hippies, and working class
Jews, the Romany gypsies had traveled
all over the known world and had occult
knowledge, about divination, as poetry
is a kind of divining of the soul of human kind

Hitler did not like anybody that had their own
will to art, he said of the abstract artists and
surrealists that if they continue to think that
way they should be removed, the language
of poets is an underground stream, that has
been spread by telling stories through folk
wisdom, through fragments of knowledge
that has been smuggled in the nonsense words
spoken by the crazy man wandering

down the country road, that appears out of nowhere
out of the cauldron of frothing stars, comes a stranger
whose voice breaks apart into shards of meaning
that upon looking at a single piece holds a written
flower of bits of languages that once held memories
of other places other times, passing from the rippling veil

the poet cannot be silenced any more than the wisdom from the collective consciousness that awaits a human voice to share the mysteries of time passed.....
