the dime drops through the moon hole
this does not dispute the fact of moon rocks
falling through a language that came from
a distant star that spoke of a planet
called earth, or by another name
so many ways of saying the same thing
so many ways of saying something else
ideological dust on the words
that fill the books whose only purpose
is to enlighten the reader
a poet blows the dust off the pages
so as to read what was written
before it was changed by those who tell lies
once the rains write the books of nature
and the sky was always clear of prophecy
once the words were near as a white light
a poet is not a chosen person, a poet chooses
to say what no other has, and the word poet
is just another word to say what is truly human
how long have we been trying to say that word
who are the bards of today who spoke the story of us
who gave us the poem of our long journey of memory
when the trees sang to us from the roots of the universe
when we once knew who we were and how we got that
