Shakespeare said all the world's a stage
and on this stage he placed three witches

that recited their poetic brew
in that cauldron did they stir
the imagination of the world

poetry is not unlike what the witches
tossed in the pot, this is at the core
of Greek tragedy, but it is not too much of a leap
to compare the political situation
that we have been seeing unravel
like a Shakespearean play, like Macbeth
seeing the forest move, or some of the other
famous speeches of kings and fools

all the world is a stage, and the poet must get up
and read a poem in the middle of the lime light
as the gathered throng tosses cuss at the poet
as the three witches recite the obscene details behind
I don't know what is going on, I just pick up on eye
of newt, toe of frog, wool of bat, tongue of dog

we see all these weird forces playing out on the stage
what the heck is that silly poet doing up there
with his silly poems, as the three fates make faces at us
from their perch on the Olympian clouds of history
