the style of the poet

I became a poet because I had a feeling
that the direction of way things were going
in this world was not too wonderful
but over that I was very attracted
to the style of the poets I read
every poet has their own style
so the more I read certain poets
the more I felt a sense of their unique style
by listening to this unique style
I get a sense of the voice of the poet
it comes through nuance and inflection
after awhile I get a sense of certain subtle
interplay and familiar quirks of the style
it all depends on that for me, in my own style
I have always been experimental, I look for odd
connections, if I use something that is happening
in the world, I'm not trying to preach to the reader
and the reader is almost always another poet
no I'm not trying to make you think like me
because I have more regard for language then that
I know that within my style there is always
something I am looking for, the subject matter
is just the paint on the canvas, as it were
I am always looking for those unusual openings
but in order to write anything at all I have
to sometimes play with that are not always
going to work on the face of it, it is always
taking a chance, I don't know if it works
or if I will see my style which is kinda like
what Rimbaud said, I am other
in any case world events and things world leaders say
is fair game, because politicians have no poetic style
but they use their words like they are trying to sell us
something, but as if we have already bought it
so no I don't expect you to think like me
I don't even think like myself, but my style does, when
I find it in the poem, so I write a lot so I can make
a lot of mistakes, I am not trying for little masterpieces
just little pieces where my style can hunt for awhile
