remember the king... I do,
yeah, that king, many a mom's
messiah was he
remember the day, I do,
hot August sun, '77
north Georgia...

the boss called it a day, early,
the king is dead, he said
radio never lies
not in Cartersville,

but young and old, of our crew knew ,
that day the world changed,
the man was loved to death
what else... why not

it was like yesterday...
bathing in the creek,
mountain spring water,
nice watermelon waiting,
tied to the shore
chillin'

the crew all from Tennessee,
and me, eighty mile from home,
outta town jobs, you know,
camping in the park...
yeah, it was ’77
it was all good
we wore beads

It's strange about Elvis, I read that he was a spiritual person, meaning he was not just a Christian, but he was very conservative, or he might of been a CIA asset, in any case he was surrounded by phenomenon. All the stories about Elvis sightings is like ufo sightings. An Elvis sighting is a great subject for a poem.People out there still believe he is still alive. There is a lot of very mysterious stuff surrounding the Elvis story. Even the way he died. His acting in Hollywood was kinda sad he sure was no Marlin Brando. He was into martial arts too kinda, he was taught by a famous teacher, Ed Parker. So, but his music changed the mental landscape, the music scene, he made it ok to be a white person singing black type music. Sexual body movements.

I was 27, newlywed & blissfully unaware of the iceberg our marriage was bearing down on. I remember Elvis passing, but by that time I was more heavily into blues & jazz, and it didn't hit me the way that Miles or Stevie Ray's did much later.

thanks guys

I remember the movies, at around 7-8 years old, and how all the
wives in the neighborhood couldn't wait to see them.

Had a friend who had Elvis lips.... he had all the girls too.
It was about that time I really started getting into music, the
portable transistor radio.... it was the Cream song, Spoonful, that
bumped Elvis out for me.... ''67 or '68 I think.
