you are either a poet or not a poet
you are either a poet or not a poet in the fifties
you are a child sitting in front of a TV
in a small room wondering
how you got into this body
how the heck you got here
you sit and watch war movies and cartoons
you wonder about what is God
and why you never see God on TV
you see science fiction with robots
that look like jukeboxes or walking pinball machines
you see films with beatniks or Hollywood's version
but you know that bongos are cool
you still don't know what God is
but you don't think this flickering box is
now you see Kennedy killed on the box
where a few years before you saw ufo's at the movies
flying over Washington D.C. but now you think
of yourself as one of those beatnik characters
because Kennedy is dead and God is not on television
but soon the Beatles are
