poetry does not come from a vacuum

Swift was a friend of Pope
they had a meeting of minds
Pope had to deal with the little poets
Swift was no Lilliputian

but we all are disillusioned
we might not have to fend off
the yappy poets at out heals
that try to take down the intellectual giant
oh Alexander was defiant to a fault

and I really did not much like Walt
but his leaves of grass are always green
if you know what I mean

I don't know but Poe took us down
some dark corridors, the ghost of America
haunts his story

I never lived in those ivy halls
when if Wordsworth farted
the universe was charted

and what was Milton on about
I never could read Paradise Lost
did he write it on a dare
so school boys would be told to memorize
the first book as a punishment
so they would never care to become
a devil poet

I think Shelly's ancient traveler
is still traveling somewhere through time
if you look hard enough you might see him
somewhere in the Rhyme

Ah, Keats, sweet unrest
