Nietzsche told us that what we were
looking for was beyond good and evil
a poet's words would take us to that beyond
but what do we see when we get there

perhaps we merely see the poem
like a deserted church on the edge of nowhere
with clouds floating through the empty room
and birds sitting on the statues

or maybe see a tree on a hill
with words for leaves with light
shining through

here we are beyond good and evil

a poem is beyond, a poem is a bottle of wine
and a loaf of French bread, nothing good or evil
or maybe a little of both, but to see what is beyond
