the lantern fell on the rock

the lantern falls on the rock
the clock on the mountain
the stars spill from the sky
the moon rolls down the hill
and lands in the silver spoon
the trees drink the stars
and dance in the shadows
like drunken ghosts of light
the branches grab the milky way
the fork in the road bends
the black snake explodes
the ocean comes to remind us
that you cant use it as a sewer
it will spit out sunken things
like civilizations that crossed
nothing is written in stone
the end of the world is nigh
nothing ever really dies
the birds shoot out of the void
and a blade off grass
shoots out of the road
and if you know what it means
why things that grow are green
and what color are pennies
every word ever spoken
in the name of the living
is recorded in the cosmos
the flag of the earth people
flies over the valley
of the shadow of death
was planted by the great spirit
that moves on the sacred waters
of the deepest heavens
the flowers pray for holy rain
the sun is a giant ball of love
the poet's voice is stolen by the wind
the clock on the mountain
the stars spill from the sky
the moon rolls down the hill
and lands in the silver spoon
the trees drink the stars
and dance in the shadows
like drunken ghosts of light
the branches grab the milky way
the fork in the road bends
the black snake explodes
