the jig is up
what I mean is, like Bukowski said
when the wine is gone
the reading is over
he said that at a poetry reading

but you could turn that around
when the poetry is gone
it's all over

when there is no more poetry
in this unpoetic world, then
then nothing will make any sense

there is so little sense left
and even if poetry sounds like
nonsense to the people that
have no sense left

see it's the poetry that makes sense
to happen, even if nothing else does
so that means you might find poetry
where you don't expect it

like Bukowski who was a story writer
and one day he just started writing poetry
like he did not expect it
so don't let the wine run out
don't let the magic of seeing the ironic
in the ordinary, but what then is ordinary

So the Dharma Bums fell off the shelf
when I woke a little grumpy, and the
first page I opened to was about how
Ray would bring back the world he'd
seen to Japhy, but then Japhy went
off to Japan, it's a long road..
