Poeta Aetrnam

Post by beekay » July 10th, 2017, 10:55 am

Words have power
And if craftily joined,
There is magic, too.
But a poem needs a voice,
A dimension of sound,
Or it is incomplete.

A poem is a song
Without music.
A poem is a song
Making its own music
Subtly, in the tone and rhythm
Of the poet’s voice.

This is the oldest of arts,
From the Dreamtime,
Before we learned to make
Fleeting interruptions
In cyberspace; or
To place ink on paper; or
To make lines in the dirt:
When the whole story of a people
Was carried in a poet’s mind and heart
And sung from generation to generation
And thus,
Stayed alive.

So, come, sit closer to the fire
And watch the shadows dance
And I will watch your eyes
Open wide with delight
Or fear
Or close and weep in sadness
As I sing a tale of our people.
And you will know
The power of the words
And feel the magic.

It all starts with poetry. Seems I don't write anything without some sort of poem in my head or heart..

I know what you mean. That's the kind of feeling that led me to write this a few years ago. It ended up being the preface for an ebook of poetry now on Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Sea-Change-Willi ... B010ISU620 if you want to look). The odd thing is that, not long after I wrote this poem, I stumbled on a song called "A Twist In The Myth" by a band named "Blind Guardian". It was an odd echo of what I wrote, set in the dark ages...

yes, words have deep power, often forgotten in this age of amplified twitter bullshit.Your poem reminded me to write for the truth of it the song, if you will, your poem woke me up from a sleep of despair for the state of the art when computer programs read the poems and decide who is a poet . The poet is in the wind and rain, tears of the refugee , what ever the heart feels to sing about, thank you for reminding me.

well done.... a pleasure to read...crafted from the passion of the soul...words matter and......life is richer for their connections
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading
