retired
morning coffee
on my porch
waving at my neighbors
driving off to work
they wave back
not meaning
it

oh yes! Each morning...

we walk,
the dog and I,
along the road and smugly
wave to neighbors still in harness
ah, freedom!

Yeah, the only downside is having to get up early enough to see the mob off to work. But, it's worth it...

my poor tenant upstairs has to pass each morning as I read the paper in my rocking chair on the front porch....the commuters look forlorn as I'm watering my plants as well....but I gotta tell ya....I earned it !

Yup. I can't say I miss getting up in the dark to dig my car out of a snowbank so I can drive it 25 miles along unplowed roads to a job that I hate. I've paid my dues. Laying me off 6 months shy of turning 65 - with 6 months severance! - was the best thing they ever did for me.
