Butterfly, valiant butterfly
With each stroke of fragile wings
An inch closer to your goal
To reach the sun

Keep on with hope
And at the end be spared
Knowing the futility
Of your journey

Some desperation sits at the heart of this poem,I had to stop and think, butterflies do not generally fly toward the sun, or if they do ,it is in migration, ah but what if the whole process of existence is considered futility? How deep the desperation in this seemingly simple poem . Ah but then more complex yet, we are spared knowing this beginning and end lights out just empty space sort of feeling.Interesting bit of work,Poets capture difficult considerations ,this poem asks what is hope ? then paints a dark answer. I would be interested in the poets thoughts on this.

According to poet Robert Browning,

"Ah, but a man's reach should exceed his grasp, Or what's a heaven for?"

Maybe that applies to butterflies as well? ;-)
