TO BE OR NOT TO BE, THAT IS THE QUESTION

This poem was a stream of consciousness that erupted after sleeping and dreaming of the images that flashed before my eyes from every news outlet. Shakespeare was prescient me thinks and human history and our tendency towards violence never seems to resolve. Not that there isn't hope, I never stop believing that there isn't another path... for like Gandhi, MLK, Mandela, Lennon, Mother Teresa, Buddha, etc. this planet desperately needs a someone to speak calmly and forcefully for sanity in an insane world... Otherwise this drama will not have a happy ending. Think Peace, pray for Peace, Love Peace, Be Peaceful and if you feel you must fight for something...fight non-violently. "Come not between the dragon and his wrath" (King Lear...Wm. Shakespeare) A dragon looms on the horizon...

TO BE OR NOT TO BE, THAT IS THE QUESTION

bubbling under the surface
the foul stench of anger erupts
my calm twists and writhes askew
history repeatedly repeats
leaving shackled footprints
in cemented gravestones

bony constructs reach upward
humanity so fragile seeks death
mountains moving ever so slowly
kiss the black foam of the seas

the sky is littered with junk
clear cutting trees to eat dirt
plastic fantastic earth glitters
distracted by folly and foible
we slaughter and slay
and laugh at blood stained tracks

too many, too few, too much, too too
nothing can stop us now

lurching towards a cliff's edge
wingless souls scream
we want, we need, we must!
no happy endings here
in this dystopian feather bed

the bard must be laughing in his grave
theatre in the square strewn with bodies
watching rapt...give us more, more gore!
flashing lights, flashing teeth, flashing swords
that peaceful place is but a dream
bespoiled by bellicose bullies
with a heil heil here and a heil heil there

the condors, only a few left, circle the ruins
my brain full of holes, tattered and rent
my silky self a ghost haunted by never more
my garden sanctuary withers, assulted
the fattened and greedy love it all

just where is the light?
where is the compassion?
where is the truth?
me, lost in the cacophony
as the racketeers rule the throne room

hyenas laugh and bare their teeth
tearing flesh from the bone
poison drips from tongues and all is lost
alone with my terrorized resignation
blue, black and blue, blue marble melts
a puddle in space

So it is, when the gods of materialism and greed (and yes, miasmic hate) spread their religion.

Passionate and haunting, Sooz. And with a clear vision.

just where is the light?
where is the compassion?
where is the truth?
in every mirror

Greed is a mental illness
love is what they were supposed to learn
god, shakespeare, and the aliens laugh
at how we failed such an obvious test

I vote for 'be.' (If that still means anything.)
