Window Above the Sink

insect parts
on the back of the sink
legs, wings,
patterns of wreckage -
I look at the scatter
while washing dishes
they all were there
yesterday too

I still haven't tossed that poor wasp I murdered last weekend. And good lord, those dishes...

I have a spider living in my bathroom.....up in the corner....sleeps a lot....but does catch other insects for me...so we coexist...I say hello....sometimes I flick a silky thread to let him know I'm there....can't we all just get along

I generally coexist with the local insects, but those wasp/hornet nasties-- not so much. I'm severely allergic to their sting.

My spiders mostly reside in the space between the windows and their screens. Occasionally one will wander onto my kitchen counter. I keep a small red plastic party cup and playing card for just such contingencies: drop the cup over the spider, slide the card under, and transport the little lady either to the front door or the nearest window sill. Same with the harvestmen that somehow find their way inside, though those I usually grab by a leg. Ya gotta grab the leg right where it comes out of the body because it doesn't flex there - otherwise the little sonofabitch will try to bite.
I'm not so accommodating to the wasps and mosquitoes, though. Nor the ants, though we mostly just have the occasional border skirmish. But I had two infestations this year that called for more drastic measures. (No petrochemicals, thank you, just boric acid in sugar water.)
Love the poem, mingo.

that space space
heaven and a hard place

More interesting than not,
it's a bug's world all the way,
always was and will be...
Had a Soho basement apartment
a few summers ago, and the prior
occupants still invaded daily...
the tiny ants would come in by the fridge
and march across the sink toward the stove...
Rather than externminate the little beings,
I just fed them some sweets by the fridge...
One big/litte happy family,
everafter
