Panhandling

I ran away from home to New Orleans
Lived in places that were Day labor
My life was turbulent
To say the least
I sought to tame the beast

I never forgot what it felt like to be homeless
Panhandling in the street
I know what it is like to stand for many hours
On a freeway on ramp
I had no idea why I had to live that way
Could not live with my mother one more day
31 years later we are friends
Omg I had to make amends
Those days rose like a strange ghost
When I thought those things through

I was no longer blue
Knew I made the right choices
Even if no one rejoices
