Taking Me Past

Post by the mingo » October 14th, 2017, 8:27 am

he took me past where the pavement ends
where the road turned to gravel
showed me where the house had stood
in 1933

the barn
the woodshed
the outhouse

long gone
nothing but forest now

he drove us out
by a different way
than we went in

to where gravel
turned to pavement
again
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

loop of knowledge
Ain't it the truth - when young knowledge tempted me same as it did Adam & Eve - I too feasted on that apple - these days all I want is to be free of the world's knowledge, some day, maybe tomorrow, that's the way it shall be - I won't be looking back and I won't miss none of it 8)

walking along these old dirt roads, lined with crumbling fieldstone walls and 2nd growth forest, I sometimes find myself wondering what the view was like 100 years ago.....

Terrific image and short-short story. Makes the reader wonder who "he" is, why he took you there, who "us" is, and what happened afterward. I like it!
