Cardinal Ratzinger ( somehow that name seems appropriate) is the most right-wing of all the high-ranking cardinals.

As a Catholic and a progressive in politics, I am appalled at his election.

BUT, the US church doesn't pay that much attention to the Vatican any more.



It's only a matter of time before there is a strong break with Rome here.
