nuggets

I'll stop when I dry up
like a leaf fallen to the earth
and my throat refuses to vibrate
and my eyes have shrunken like old fruit
but til that day
I'll ignore my appetite for food in the Amana
and the ink will sate my desire
for sustenance
the visit to the bath
can wait with the hunger
the telephone can sit quiet
like a threatened child in church
and I will show you
my meager guts with a spark of hope...
you may cling to a tasty nugget
that gives you a tablespoon of nourishment
swallow the medicine that nurtures you
your soul of souls...the one way down
there in the voids of the ship, 12 decks down
ladders into the belly of the ocean
did you know
there are fish
no man
has ever seen
like a leaf fallen to the earth
and my throat refuses to vibrate
and my eyes have shrunken like old fruit
but til that day
I'll ignore my appetite for food in the Amana
and the ink will sate my desire
for sustenance
the visit to the bath
can wait with the hunger
the telephone can sit quiet
like a threatened child in church
and I will show you
my meager guts with a spark of hope...
you may cling to a tasty nugget
that gives you a tablespoon of nourishment
swallow the medicine that nurtures you
